Research shows that students who read over the summer are better prepared for the
demands of the academic school year. Every year, the Frontier Regional School English
department strives to support summer reading by requiring students to read a book or two related
to the English curriculum.
This year, the English Department selected a group of books that provide students with
opportunities to examine a broad range of perspectives. The books address a number of
controversial topics and will be the basis for discussion and projects at the beginning of the
school year or semester. Students are encouraged to take notes as they read so they can recall
what they have read over the summer.
There is a required book title for each grade (please see below). Every student is expected
to read the book assigned to their grade and choose ONE assignment to complete by September
7th, 2018. High school students will submit their completed assignments in the LMC and Middle
School students will submit them to their English teachers.
In addition to the assigned grade level book, all Middle School students are expected to
read, Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai . At the start of the school year, students will
participate in a community day filled with activities, workshops, and discussions based on this
Summer reading information is also located on the Frontier Facebook page, the Frontier
homepage, and the Library Media Center homepage. You can find the required books at your
local library or bookstore. The libraries and bookstores were notified and they should be aware
of the demands for the selected titles. If you have any trouble finding titles or accessible formats,
please contact our Library Media Specialist, Zoe Keenan, at email@example.com . Please help
us support this important program.
