State Reopening Initial Guidance

Hello Frontier and Union#38 Families:

Today, Governor Baker’s office and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released their initial guidance about reopening schools this fall.  Over the coming weeks, we will be reviewing the guidance to begin to understand how it impacts the reopening of our schools. They also acknowledge that these initial guidelines do not address every topic and that there will be additional guidance coming throughout the summer.  The full initial fall school reopening guidance document can be found at http://www.doe.mass.edu/covid19/return-to-school/guidance.docx

UPDATE - Message to Our Community awareness

Dear Frontier Regional and School Union #38 Families,

Upon communicating with various members of our community and reflecting on the letter and resources that were sent out last Thursday, we would like to correct some mistakes made and to expand upon some ideas shared.

The District commits to ongoing social justice training and growth. We acknowledge the systemic racism that exists in our society's policies and institutions. We recognize that the prevailing homogeneity in our district leadership team has left out the voices and experiences of our community members of color and failed to provide support and acknowledgment of the stress, grief, and trauma that people of color are living with because of recent events as well as throughout our nation's racist history.

Summer Reading 2020 reading

We hope this finds you safe and well during these unprecedented times. As the summer approaches, we are reaching out to share our summer reading expectations and guidelines for students at the Frontier Regional middle and high schools. Research shows that students who read over the summer are better prepared for the demands of the academic school year.

This summer, the English Department is suggesting a number of book titles from which
students can choose, exploring a range of diverse perspectives.

Family Resources on Race

Dear Families,

The challenges facing the world right now are immense. It can be difficult to know how to broach these topics with your children. This letter contains some ideas for starting these conversations with your child, as well as ways to begin to address the issues of race, equity, and take action in your home everyday.

Please preview the resources and decide which resources will meet your needs. We hope these resources can serve as an entry point to help you and your family during these challenging times.

Message to Our Community FrontierU38

The Towns of Conway, Deerfield, Sunderland, and Whately

We write to you today from a place of shared grief and pain over the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd. Pain over the tragic events that have transpired in Minneapolis and the many cities and towns across our nation. Pain over this senseless tragedy as we turn our collective attention to the perpetual problem of racial inequalities being amplified by incidences of senseless police brutality in America. We recognize many members of our community are grieving and we offer solace to you all.
