State Reopening Initial Guidance

Hello Frontier and Union#38 Families:

Today, Governor Baker’s office and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released their initial guidance about reopening schools this fall.  Over the coming weeks, we will be reviewing the guidance to begin to understand how it impacts the reopening of our schools. They also acknowledge that these initial guidelines do not address every topic and that there will be additional guidance coming throughout the summer.  The full initial fall school reopening guidance document can be found at http://www.doe.mass.edu/covid19/return-to-school/guidance.docx

UPDATE - Message to Our Community awareness

Dear Frontier Regional and School Union #38 Families,

Upon communicating with various members of our community and reflecting on the letter and resources that were sent out last Thursday, we would like to correct some mistakes made and to expand upon some ideas shared.

The District commits to ongoing social justice training and growth. We acknowledge the systemic racism that exists in our society's policies and institutions. We recognize that the prevailing homogeneity in our district leadership team has left out the voices and experiences of our community members of color and failed to provide support and acknowledgment of the stress, grief, and trauma that people of color are living with because of recent events as well as throughout our nation's racist history.

Reopening Update desks

Dear Families,

As our school faculty and staff begin the process of closing out this uniquely challenging school year, we are also focused on using guidance provided by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop plans for the 2020/21 school year. A formal planning process is underway. This message is intended to provide an update on our planning process.

Message to Our Community FrontierU38

The Towns of Conway, Deerfield, Sunderland, and Whately

We write to you today from a place of shared grief and pain over the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd. Pain over the tragic events that have transpired in Minneapolis and the many cities and towns across our nation. Pain over this senseless tragedy as we turn our collective attention to the perpetual problem of racial inequalities being amplified by incidences of senseless police brutality in America. We recognize many members of our community are grieving and we offer solace to you all.

Whately Elementary Has School Choice Openings!

Thank you for your interest in Whately Elementary School!

We are very excited to begin the process of welcoming new friends!  We encourage families to come visit us to see all the wonderful thing that are happening in our school There are several ways to have a Whately Elementary School “experience”. You can call to set up a tour during the school day. If it is easier to come outside of school hours, that can be arranged. We will also have a classroom visit day so that students can spend an hour in a classroom while parents meet with me to ask any questions you may have.

We have opening in most classrooms for School Choice. Applications are available on line and can be faxed or mailed to us. If we have more applications than available slots, we will have a lottery that will be witnessed by a member of the Whately School Committee in order to ensure fairness.

We look forward to becoming your family’s choice for education.
