As our school faculty and staff begin the process of closing out this uniquely challenging school year, we are also focused on using guidance provided by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop plans for the 2020/21 school year. A formal planning process is underway. This message is intended to provide an update on our planning process.
News reports have offered unsettling visions of empty hallways and a draconian educational experience for students, creating more questions than answers. I want to reassure our families that our district educators remain committed to providing our students with the best educational experience possible while keeping health and safety at the forefront of our conversations.
We have created eight different committees of district teachers and administrators who will plan collaboratively throughout the summer while examining the ever-changing state and federal guidelines related to COVID-19. Areas of focus for these committees include issues such as curriculum and instruction, health and wellness, technology, facilities, and safety.
The work of each committee will carefully examine the most up to date guidelines and information and make informed recommendations for meeting the educational needs of the students, families, and staff in each of our district’s five schools. While numerous challenges await all school systems this fall, we are optimistic that our talented and dedicated educators will make it work.
Although we are well underway in our planning process, we still await further guidance and requirements scheduled to be released later this month by the MA Dept of elementary and secondary education. We anticipate regulations will be published regarding the use of masks, class sizes, distancing, cleaning, the use of materials, etc. There will, undoubtedly, be a lot of “noise” across the state when the MA guidance and mandates are shared publicly. I ask our families to please continue to support our efforts with your patience and understanding as we work to create plans in response to these upcoming guidelines.
As part of the planning process, we will be reaching out to you with a number of surveys so that your views can help inform our planning. We will be working throughout the summer and anticipate sharing our completed re-entry plan in late July or early August. Dependent upon state developments this summer.
Thank you for your ongoing support, flexibility, and please be safe during the summer break.
