5th Grade

Be Internet Awesome

I am using curriculum provided by Google called Be Internet Awesome! to share with students rules for Internet Safety. This is a new curriculum developed by Google and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe.org). The curriculum focuses on 5 fundamental topics of digital safety:

  • Share with Care (Be Internet Smart)
  • Don't Fall fir Fake (Be Internet Alert)
  • Secure Your Secrets (Be Internet Strong)
  • It's Cool to be Kind (Be Internet Kind)
  • When in Doubt, Talk it Out (Be Internet Brave)

Lessons are broken into 4-5 week  lessons focusing on each area of focus. There is an interactive game piece that the students use to practice these skills. Lessons involved whole classroom discussions and small group/partner discussions about online etiquette and safety. Lessons for 5th Grade include:

  • When Not to Share
  • Don't Bite That Phishing Hook!
  • How to Build  a Great Password
  • From Bystanders to Upstanders
