King Arthur Bake for Good

Don’t you just love the smell of freshly baked bread?  This month, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade will enjoy a free experience sponsored by King Arthur Baking Company of Norwich, Vermont.

With the King Arthur Baking Company’s Bake for Good program your child will learn to bake and share their baked goods as an act of kindness using the power of baking to make a difference.  Students will learn that combining math, science, reading and baking know-how adds up to make delicious bread!

Each child will receive a Baking Kit which includes two bags of King Arthur flour, a recipe booklet, Red Star Yeast, a dough scraper, a bread donation bag with a twist tie too.  With their new baking skills, and your support, your student will bake this recipe with confidence. (As your new baker will tell you, this recipe takes about 3 ½ hours!)

After baking two loaves of bread or rolls, they will share half of their baked goods (one loaf or some rolls), as an act of kindness.  Family Bakers will keep the other delicious loaf (or cinnamon rolls or pizza or dinner rolls) to enjoy.  There is no obligation to participate; we encourage all students because this program’s message aligns with our school’s mission to support our broader community with caring acts of kindness.

We will collect the donated breads at SES and share them with the Salvation Army located in Greenfield, MA.  A box for bread donations will be set up within the school.  The breads will be transported to the Salvation Army for distribution.
