Title IX
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 makes it illegal to discriminate based on gender at schools, colleges, and any educational programs that receive federal funding. This includes school sports teams, clubs, and programs. Under this law, sexual assault and sexual harassment are also considered forms of gender discrimination.
Your Right to Speak Up about Gender Bias & Sexual Misconduct
As we all come together to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families, it’s critical to notice and speak up about unfair treatment and inappropriate behavior, like bias-based actions and sexual misconduct. By speaking out, we can ensure our schools are safe, welcoming, and fair for everyone, as required by laws against discrimination.
You have options for reporting these issues, and it’s up to you whether you want to share your name or keep it confidential. Just remember, reporting doesn’t mean you have to be part of further investigations. It’s against the law to punish or mistreat anyone for sharing something they’ve witnessed or experienced.
If you experience or witness a bias-based incident and/or sexual misconduct, we urge you to report it either
